You may have noticed that my website looks like a blog because it has blog posts on the homepage, so I was asked recently by someone starting out if they need a website and blog or both. There are pro’s and cons for either, but I say whatever floats your boat.
when i first started I had a website and a blog attached, I found that my blog had more visitors than my website, so when I revamped my website I decided to go down this route of combining a website and blog because I truly believe in the power of blogging to build and brand your business as well as the seo benefits, it works for me.
As a business tool, blogging has become a serious option, in tandem with the trend of using social networking sites to promote your products or views. A blog is a chance to show the human face of your business and keep up your search engine ranking with a regular injection of the fresh content that the search engines value highly. A blog allows your visitors to understand your brand and by posting tips, articles, links to other interesting articles you gradually position yourself as an expert in your field. It can also demonstrate that you you know what you’re talking about it when you comment on other blogs and offer advice. One thing to think about is, can you commit to blogging? Its does require a level of commitment.
If you’re about to establish your web presence, then I would recommend that you combine your business website and blog, fairly similar to what I’ve done for my own website. This way ensures that vistors to your website can see your blog and services and/or products, while providing what webmasters call “sticky content” that gives website visitors a reason to spend more time on your site, and increases the likelihood that they’ll return.
I recommend using the WordPress platform, for buidling your website. WordPress is one of the foremost platforms for people wanting to get into the blogging action, as well as building websites. Since WordPress is so simple to use and the content is so easy to maintain, this means less overhead and less time spent for creation and maintenance of company websites. The blogging aspect of WordPress also means that your company has a popular, in-demand method for keeping their audiences updated on company business and advertising your products and services. Plus, blogging offers a wonderful method for your company to get feedback from consumers. WordPress makes it easy to keep the content fresh, which increases search engine ranking so that the company’s content will have a better chance of audience exposure

To sum things up you’re going to need a website for your business, so that’s pretty much a must, and then to optimise your presence online I would recommend combining the two for maximum impact.
